William Steinberger is a director, dramaturg, producer and occasional playwright. He works on scripted plays, musicals and devised theatre.
Will is proud Artistic Director of InVersion Theatre, which has produced seven full-length works since 2011 and is currently developing a new musical inspired by megalomania, blood science and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Recent InVersion productions include the premiere of Johnny Lloyd’s In the Woods We Return and Gregor, an original adaptation of Franz Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis.” InVersion also produces the quarterly “We Read Books” series in collaboration with The Tank.
Will has developed new work with the Drama League, Hartford Stage, Berkshire Theatre Group, 59E59, Judson Memorial Church, The Tank, Jewish Plays Project, Czech Center New York, IATI/FringeNYC, the Wilma, Passage Theatre, InterAct Theatre Company, Theatre Horizon, Fresh Ground Pepper, Uglyrhino, The Greenfield Collective, Theatre for the New City, Kingfisher Theater, New City Stage Company, the University of Pennsylvania, Rider University and Fordham University.
Will’s freelance production credits include Zizi Majid’s Return to Fall (Columbia University), Sarah Pappalardo’s Cold (Quince Productions), Hannah Van Sciver’s Marbles (FringeArts) and Fifty Days at Iliam (Greenfield Collective), Jacob Sebastian-Phillips’ Eyes Closed (Theatre Row / United Solo Festival), Brent Deekens’ The Currency (Mid-City Productions), Josh Piven’s Muddled (Drexel University) and David Auburn’s Proof (Neumann University), as well as short works by Calley Anderson and Gina Stevensen.
Will has assistant directed for Darko Tresnjak, Doug Hughes, David Auburn, Michael Wilson, Vivienne Benesch, Kip Fagan, Lee Sunday Evans, Robert O’Hara, Maria Mileaf, Kristin Marting and others. He has worked on the artistic and literary staffs of Hartford Stage, the Wilma and Passage Theatre. Will is a Resident Director at the Flea, Manhattan Theatre Club Directing Fellow and member of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab.
